Summer in Manchester is always a time for celebration and being busy but if you are looking for the best events, this guide will show you the top days out for all ages and interests.

Be crafty

If you have managed to given the kids the slip for a day or you don’t have to worry about looking after children, the Left Bank Beer Festival will give you a chance to relax and unwind with some of the best new craft beers in the country. The event takes place between the 28^th and 30^th of July at the People’s History Museum.

Explore the London Road Fire Station

This is one of the best looking buildings in the city and this summer guests will be welcome to enjoy a tour of the building. A refurbishment project is underway and the building will be rechristened as the Manchester Firehouse.

Enjoy some live music at many of the great music festivals

Between the 22^nd and 31^st of July, there will be a number of special musical and science events taking place the Jodrell Bank observatory in Cheshire. Professor Brian Cox will be in hand but with musicians like Jean-Michel Jarre, Mercury Rev, Public Space Broadcasting, Moon Duo and British Sea Power lined up to perform, this is a music festival with a difference.

If jazz is more of your thing, the Manchester Jazz festival takes place at the end of July with a range of gigs, events and shows across the city.

If you prefer your music to be lively enough to get you on the dancefloor, Whitebottom Farm, located in Etherow Country Park in the south of Manchester, is the place to be for the Moovin Festival which takes place at the August Bank Holiday weekend.

With acts like Lee Scratch Perry, Goldie, Finlay Quaye, A Certain Ratio and Justin Robertson all involved, there will be something for everyone that loves to dance.

Explore the dark arts

If you or your kids love the supernatural, there is still a chance to enjoy the Magic, Witches & Devils event at the John Rylands Library. This runs until the 21^st of August and aims to detail our relationship with the supernatural over the past few centuries.

Get animated

On the 30^th and 31^st of July, the Manchester Comic Con takes place allowing lovers of comics, superheroes, anime, cosplay and all other sci-fi related fun to congregate, meet stars and take part in a wide range of activities.

Discover one of Manchester’s favourite artists

The Lowry art venue is now offering a permanent display of a wide collection of the work undertaken by LS Lowry, while also shining more of a light on the man behind the artwork. Anyone looking for an insight into Salford life from the 1900s will find that this is an excellent way to do so, and there is free entry!

Take part in the One Big Summer Weekend

The 22^nd to the 24^th of July looks set to be a lot of fun with a wide range of events and activities lined up in Manchester. There is the Manchester Picnic which takes place in Exchange Square, with live music and some of the street food operators in the local area offering food from around the world.

The weekend also coincides with the Jazz Festival and there will be a chance to enjoy live performances at the bandstand in New Cathedral Street during the day at this weekend. If you have more interest in science than jazz, make sure you head to St Ann’s Square for the Science In The City ranger of events, which run from the 22^nd to the 29^th of July. There will also be science events taking place in the Manchester Arndale on the 23^rd and 24^th of July.

Manchester is blooming

If you are looking for something with a more sedate pace, enjoy the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park taking place between the 20^th and 24^th of July. Some celebratory gardeners like Monty Don and Carol Klein are scheduled to appear so head along and meet some big names from the world of TV.
