In recent years, property portals have reported a ‘Boxing Day bounce’, as households planning a move in the new year begin their online searches immediately after Christmas Day.

Last year Boxing Day was the busiest ever day for new seller activity, with a record number of properties listed for sale. The number of new properties coming to the market for sale last year was 26% higher than Boxing Day 2023, when the previous record was set.

An even stronger bounce is expected this year, as alongside the usual seasonal slowdown, many movers who paused plans amid uncertainty around the autumn budget will look to kick-start their moves in 2026, with around one in five home movers saying they were waiting for the budget outcome before resuming plans.
