Davenport and Cale Green
Amenities and Things to Do
Davenport has plenty of convenient shops right on the doorstep, including a Spar and other small grocery stores. There are also plenty of other local favourites, such as Funky Monkey café, which is a great place to get a coffee and a light lunch.
There are also some highly regarded schools in the near vicinity. Several of Stockport’s primary and secondary schools have been awarded ‘good’ or above on their recent Ofsted reports, which understandably makes the area desirable for families.
For some excellent shopping, a trip to Stockport town centre
is recommended, though if you’re looking for a premier retail experience,
Manchester is just half an hour away by train. For evening entertainment,
Stockport’s Redrock venue has a huge 10-screen cinema, plus a wide range of
restaurants to choose from.
Things to Do in Davenport
Davenport is well situated to reach all of Stockport’s major attractions, not to mention Manchester’s (which is just a short journey away by train). Cale Green Park is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic on a summer’s day, with a children’s playground and bandstand in the vicinity. The Plaza Theatre and café is another popular spot with locals, and a great place to watch a play or stop for a bite to eat.
If you venture into the rest of Stockport, you’ll find a wealth of amazing museums and historic sites, such as Stockport Museum, which details the area’s history, and the Hatworks Museum, which delves into the town’s associations with hat-making.
There are also plenty of leisure facilities on offer, including the Grand Central Leisure Centre, which has an Olympic-sized swimming pool and work-out facilities. If you’re a big fan of the Great Outdoors, then you can go hiking in the Peak District, which is only half an hour away.
