Punnets versus Property
The 136th Wimbledon Championship is underway. The All England Club is set to host around 800 players, 679 matches and over half a million spectators before its conclusion on Sunday 16th July.
Each year at the Championships around £500,000 is spent by spectators tucking into delicious English strawberries and cream. Close to 200,000 portions are sold at £2.50 per portion.
The price of a portion of strawberries and cream has remained unchanged since 2010. In contrast, the average price of a property in the UK has increased by 54% over the same period.
Back in 2010 the average price of a property was just over £171,000 and only one in every 20 properties sold for in excess of £500,000. In the past year more than one in every six properties sold has had a price tag in excess of £500,000.
