Slowing pipeline: new home approvals hit a decade low

TomS - Head Tom Simper Nov 28, 2024, 11:30 AM

The latest Home Builders Federation’s Housing Pipeline Report has found that the number of units and sites gaining planning approval have continued to drop for yet another quarter.

Just over 230,000 units were granted planning permission over the last 12 months, the lowest figure in the last decade.

10,400 sites were approved in the same period, the lowest level since the report began in 2006.

Despite progress on planning permissions, the decline in planning permissions highlights the challenge the new Government faces in increasing housing supply. Source: Dataloft by PriceHubble, Home Builders Federation’s Housing Pipeline Report, 12 months to June 2024
