Stockport Property Prices: Nosey Neighbours Want To Know

Ian Watson Feb 15, 2019, 10:30 AM
It is inevitable that people want to know what their neighbours are up to, so stay in touch with Stockport property prices.

If you have never complained about a nosey neighbour impacting on your privacy, perhaps you are the nosey neighbour in your local area! Of course, it is perfectly natural to take an interest in what is happening around you. A lot of people look at their neighbours’ homes for tips on improvements they can make or a desire to not feel left behind when it comes to upgrades and improvements.

Alex Ferguson coined the phrase “noisy neighbours” which has managed to stick in the Greater Manchester area but nosey neighbours are found all across the country and in a study by Zoopla, it seems as though Stockport residents are amongst the nosiest neighbours in the whole of the country.

The online property portal made this observation in a review of how often website visitors to their site used their estimates tool. This tool was used to obtain a quick valuation on neighbouring properties in 2018 and in the Top 10 of towns and cities, Stockport was ranked seventh!

Stockport stands out in the north of England

The majority of towns and cities in the top 10 hailed from the South of England so Stockport played its part in showing that the North West cares about what is going on the neighbourhood. The town that ranked first in the list was Reading, with Milton Keynes coming in second and Bedford was listed third.

There are many reasons why homeowners would check on the value of a neighbour’s home, and it isn’t just about “keeping up with the Joneses”. If you are looking to sell your home in the near future, it is important that you are informed about the market and understand what prices and values are relevant to your home.

Make an informed decision when you make a move

What can be more relevant than the value of your neighbours’ home or of the value of local homes? A lot of people take average values and prices as the starting point in listing their property, but this information often isn’t informative enough. If you are unsure of how your home ranks in comparison with the average property, it would be wrong to assume that the average price is relevant to you.

However, if you look at the value of a neighbour’s home or of homes in your street, you can make an informed judgment on these homes. If a house or various property have had improvement work undertaken, it stands to reason that the value of these homes will be higher. If you haven’t improved the condition of your home, your home may not be worth as much, but at least you will understand a reason for this.
