Gorton is a mainly residential area with good transport links to the City Centre, M60 and East Manchester. The area offers some significant opportunities. For example the sites along Hyde Road provide a major opportunity for physical change and redevelopment. Gorton District Centre, includes a new Tesco supermarket, indoor market hall and retail units. The ward also has a library, parks and open spaces as well as some significant assets including Gorton Monastery and a new PFI Secondary School to replace Wright Robinson Sports College.
