Top 10 mortgage lenders

The UK’s top ten mortgage lenders lent a staggering £220.7 billion in 2019, increasing their market share to 82.4%, up from 80.4% in 2018.


The top ten lenders retained the ranking they held in 2018, Lloyds Bank the largest lender followed by Nationwide and NatWest.


The first half of 2020 saw mortgage approvals decline -32% compared to first half of 2019. Gross mortgage lending also fell, -14%.


Even with the increased demand following the stamp duty holiday, lending figures for 2020 are likely to be below 2019, potentially shifting the position of the top 10 mortgage lenders.Source: Dataloft, UK Finance
